Cameron University’s art faculty evaluated 148 entries from 78 high school art students to select the winning submissions for CU’s Invitational High School Art Competition and Exhibition. The exhibition will be on display in the Art Teaching Gallery, located in the Art Building on the east side of the Louise D. McMahon Fine Arts Complex, through May 3.
Cameron University presents an evening of music featuring the talents of its conducting students, the Cameron University Concert Band and the Cameron University Concert Choir, who will be joined by the Rose State College Chorus, conducted by Dr. Tracey Gregg-Boothby. The concert takes place on Thursday, April 25, at 7 p.m. in the Cameron University Theatre.
Community members will join Cameron University music students for a concert featuring the Cameron Community Brass Choir and the Cameron/Lawton Community Band, both under the direction of Dr. Lucas Kaspar. The concert is set for Sunday, April 28, in the University Theatre.
The Cameron University Department of Art, Music and Theatre Arts will conclude its 2023-24 “Season of Chaos, Compassion and Care” with the Student Play Festival, featuring 12 original 10-minute productions. The Student Play Festival will take place in the Studio Theatre from Thursday, April 18, through Sunday, April 21. The curtain goes up on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Individuals from all walks of life who want to enter the teaching profession are encouraged to attend “CU Become a Teacher,” a virtual workshop that will present the multiple pathways to becoming a certified teacher. The Zoom presentation will take place on Monday, April 15, at 5 p.m. and will offer information to those who have a college degree, those who have earned college credit but have yet to earn a degree, and those who have yet to earn college credit.
Cameron University has earned the 2024-25 Military Friendly® School Gold designation from G.I. Jobs magazine. CU was one of just 243 schools chosen for gold award status in recognition of its leading practices, outcomes and effective programs. The gold designation indicates that CU is rated within 10 percent of the 10th-ranked organization for the category of small public universities.
Cameron University piano students will be joined by fellow music students to present Soirée XV: Schubertiade II, a concert featuring only compositions by Franz Shubert. During the concert, the pianists will
perform as collaborators in a recital that will allow pianists, vocalists and other musicians to shine. Soirée XV: Schubertiade II is slated for Friday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the McCutcheon Recital Hall.
Cameron University’s Office of Student Development will present the Leadership without Limitations Summit, an opportunity to learn how to unleash your leadership potential while overcoming personal challenges. The half-day event is slated for Friday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Mary Lou and W. Carey Johnson Auditorium in Ross Hall. The event is open to the public at no charge.
Middle school girls who are entering 6th, 7th or 8th grades in Fall 2024 and who have an interest in mathematics, aerospace and other STEM disciplines are encouraged to apply for Cameron University’s Applied Mathematics and Aerospace Engineering Summer Academy. The residential academy is scheduled for June 2-7 on Cameron’s Lawton campus. There is no charge to participate. Only 12 students will be accepted.
