Johari receives Distinguished Service Award from educational technology association

Cameron University faculty member Dr. Abbas Johari received the 2023 Distinguished Service Award from the International Division (ID) of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT). The division’s highest award recognizes a member for leadership, dedication and service to the profession in the international arena and contributions to the International Division and AECT.

Cameron University recognizes staff members with Pickaxe Award

Cameron University staff members Tiara Robinson and Jordan Wicker-Puente are the recipients of the 2023 Pickaxe Awards, which recognize full-time Cameron employees whose performance is above and beyond expectations. Robinson is an administrative assistant in the Office of Institutional Research, Assessment and Accountability, and Wicker-Puente is an information systems specialist in the Office of Financial Assistance. Each received a $1,000 stipend and a commemorative award.

Cameron University to host Enrollment Saturday; spring classes start January 8

The Spring 2024 semester at Cameron University is quickly approaching. New, continuing or returning students who have not yet enrolled are encouraged to take advantage of Enrollment Saturday. During the walk-in enrollment clinic, students will find assistance in the areas of admissions, financial aid, veterans educational benefits, academic advising and enrollment.

Astronomy workshop aimed at Oklahoma science teachers

Cameron University will present “Life Cycle of a Star,” a professional development workshop for Oklahoma science teachers (sixth to ninth grade). The workshop will take place via Zoom on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. “Life Cycle of a Star” is made possible by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.

Cameron ethics team headed for national competition

Four Cameron University students will head to the national championship competition of the APPE Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl® in February after narrowly defeating Virginia Tech in the regional competition. The CU team of Jonelle Dunham, Alyssa Martinez, Tara Ostergard and Taylor Spores remain undefeated as they look toward their next competition, where they will face winning teams from the other 11 regional competitions.

Cameron University Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday observance to feature The Reverend Nontombi Naomi Tutu

The Reverend Nontombi Naomi Tutu will explore the imperatives envisioned by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (such as freedom, equality, justice and love) during the 40th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration, co-sponsored by Cameron University and Cameron Campus Ministry. During her keynote address, Tutu will present “MLK—The Imperative for Us” during a banquet on Monday, January 15, at 6:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn of Lawton.
