Johari receives Distinguished Service Award from educational technology association




Cameron University faculty member Dr. Abbas Johari received the 2023 Distinguished Service Award from the International Division (ID) of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT). The division’s highest award recognizes a member for leadership, dedication and service to the profession in the international arena and contributions to the International Division and AECT.

On behalf of ID, Johari was the AECT Professional Ethics Committee Chairperson and served on the AECT board as a voting member for seven years.

A member of AECT since 1995, Johari served as the International Division’s president-elect, president and past president from 2007-2010. He served as a member of the AECT Board of Directors from 2018 to 2022, led the organization’s Professional Ethics Committee from 2015 to 2022, and has twice been honored with the organization’s Presidential Award.

Johari was the editor of the International Review (Cultural and Regional Perspectives section) for AECT’s Educational Technology Research and Development Journal for a decade. He is currently the journal’s consulting editor for the research, development and Cultural and Regional Perspective sections.

Johari joined the Cameron faculty in 1999 and is a professor in the Department of Computing and Mathematical Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in an interdisciplinary instructional technology-focused program, blending educational media and computers and educational psychology, within the Curriculum and Instruction division from Arizona State University, where he also earned a master’s degree in computer technology.
