After competing in the first-ever Southwestern Regional Conference Dual hosted by the National Collegiate Grappling Association at Sam Houston State University (SHSU) last week, the Cameron University Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (CU BJJ) Club is ready to host a home match. The club will welcome competitors from SHSU on Saturday, October 11, at the Aggie Rec Center. The match will get underway at 11 a.m. and is open to the public. There is no charge to attend. Space for spectators is limited.
The Cameron University Department of Art, Music and Theatre Arts is pleased to present the Lawton Community Orchestra in concert on Tuesday, October 14, at 7:30 p.m. The concert, which will take place in the McCutcheon Recital Hall, will feature a diverse repertoire presented in a chamber music style.
The Cameron University Choir will be joined by the Gold Notes, CU’s vocal jazz ensemble, and the Lawton High School Choir for a concert celebrating “The Color of Sound” on Thursday, October 9, at 7:30 p.m. The performance will take place at Lawton’s First Presbyterian Church, located at 1302 S.W. A Ave. The concert is open to the public at no charge; however, donations to Cameron University’s music scholarship fund will be accepted. All donations go directly to music scholarships.
Cameron University biology student Solomon Meraz distinguished himself at the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Summer Undergraduate Research Experience in Cancer (SURE-CAN) program in Buffalo, N.Y. Following an immersive 10-week curriculum that included a mentored-research experience, Meraz, a senior from Oklahoma City, earned Best Lay Talk and First Place in Poster Presentation at the program’s concluding symposium.
As Jari Askins concluded her service to Cameron University (first as interim president and more recently as Special Assistant to President Shane Hunt) during a farewell reception, she was prepared for expressions of gratitude and the recounting of her professional accomplishments. Although the Duncan native took centerstage during Tuesday’s event, she chose not to bask in the accolades but instead took the opportunity to express her gratitude to the many individuals who offered assistance during her Cameron tenure.
In September 2019, after embarking on a personal goal to perform the entire cycle of Beethoven’s 32 sonatas, Cameron University professor of music Dr. Hyunsoon Whang knew from the beginning that she would defer tackling one particular sonata – the monumental "Hammerklavier" Sonata, Op. 106 – until late in the series. After months of painstaking preparation, she is now ready to perform the work on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 3 p.m. in the McCutcheon Recital Hall.

Students completing the program will help consumers and businesses define their needs, understand and evaluate buying options, facilitate effective purchase decisions, and forge enduring relationships.
The Cameron University Department of Art, Music, and Theatre Arts kicks off its 2025-26 season, “Resilience and Reverie,” with “Unity (1918),” a Gothic romance and dark comedy by Kevin Kerr. The production will be presented from Thursday, October 2, through Sunday, October 5, in the University Theatre. The curtain goes up on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 2 p.m.
