Holiday music to fill the air during performance by CU Concert Band and CU Jazz Ensemble




Holiday music will fill the air in the University Theatre on Friday, December 5, when the Cameron University Concert Band and the Cameron University Jazz Ensemble take the stage. The entertainment gets under way at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets purchased at the door are $10 for adult and $8 for senior citizens, members of the military, and non-CU students. Cameron University students, faculty and staff receive one free admission with their CU I.D. Tickets can be reserved by calling the box office at 580-581-2346. The Cameron University Jazz Ensemble will perform a variety of holiday favorites, opening with “Let It Snow!” which will feature Collin Fallon on the alto saxophone. Mvnte July will join the band on vocals for “White Christmas,” followed by Vince Guaraldi’s “Christmas Time is Here.” A jazz combo arrangement of “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire”) and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” will feature Lillie Wright on vocals. The CU Jazz Ensemble will close its portion of the concert with a much-loved Christmas classic, “Winter Wonderland.”

The Cameron University Concert Band will kick off its performance with James Curnow’s “Fanfare Prelude on Joy to the World,” followed by Gary Gilroy’s arrangement of “All About Christmas.” Music from the hit film “Polar Express,” arranged by Michael Story, will follow. The group will then present “Deck the Halls with Old Composers” by Jerry Williams, which intertwines famous classical melodies from the 19th century into “Deck the Halls.” Chris Sharp’s rousing “A Showstoppin’ Christmas” will be followed by an arrangement of music from “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” by Larry Clark. Audience members will have their chance to shine on “Christmas Pop Sing-Along” by James Ployhar. The Concert Band will conclude the program with another Christmas classic, “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson.
