Cameron University staff members selected to receive 2020 Pickaxe Award


Cameron University staff members Tiffany Hamilton, Tina Nickell and Brandy Scott are the recipients of the 2020 Pickaxe Awards, which recognize full-time Cameron employees whose performance is above and beyond expectations. Hamilton is an administrative assistant in the Department of Education, Nickell is an administrative assistant in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, and Scott is an administrative assistant in the Department of Sports and Exercise Science. Each received a $1,000 stipend and a commemorative award.


Cameron University Foundation seeks 100 donors for Giving Tuesday campaign


On Giving Tuesday, a worldwide day of philanthropy benefitting charitable causes, the Cameron University Foundation hopes to receive gifts from 100 donors. Giving Tuesday takes place on Tuesday, December 1. All gifts received that day will be earmarked for the Cameron Aggie Response (CARE) Fund. Gifts can be made online at https://www.cameron.edu/foundation/givingtuesday, which will direct donors to a secure, online credit card form. Gifts can also be mailed to Cameron University Foundation, Office of University Advancement, 2800 W. Gore Blvd., Administration 245, Lawton, OK 73505.


Cameron University Foundation teams with AmazonSmile to help CU students


The Cameron University Foundation has teamed with AmazonSmile, a charitable initiative of the worldwide online marketplace Amazon. Supporters can now select the Cameron University Foundation, shop on Amazon, and generate donations for CU students. For every eligible purchase, AmazonSmile will donate 0.5% of the total to the CU Foundation. Cameron University theatre season continues with “The Eight: The Reindeer Monologues”


Cameron University’s Department of Art, Music, and Theatre Arts will continue its 2020-21 theatre season, celebrating “Festival XI: Connections: Information Transfer Between People,” with Jeff Goode’s “The Eight: The Reindeer Monologues.” This dark comedy will be presented in the University Theatre from November 19 to 22 The curtain goes up on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for senior citizens, military, Cameron faculty and staff, and non-Cameron students. CU students receive Free admission with their CU I.D. Due to COVID-19 protocols, seating is limited and tickets must be reserved in advance. To reserve tickets, call the box office at 580-581-2478 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.


Cameron University to examine human trafficking during community presentation


The Cameron University Department of Social Sciences will present “Human Trafficking 101: Community Education and Prevention of Human Trafficking,” featuring Ahsha Morin, president of The Red Cord, Monday, November 16, at 2 p.m. the McCasland Ballroom. The event is open to the public at no cost. Due to COVID-19 protocols, seating is limited. Social distancing will be enforced, and facial coverings are required.


OK-INBRE allocates $20,000 to Cameron University for undergraduate research


Cameron University has been allocated $20,000 by the Oklahoma IDeA Network for Biomedical Research Excellence (OK-INBRE) to support faculty-mentored undergraduate research in biomedical sciences. CU faculty members may apply for funding up to $2,500 per project. The funds must be used to support one or more undergraduate students engaged in mentored research under the direction of the faculty member, with the majority of the award being utilized to support student salaries.


Cameron University Art Teaching Gallery to display “Observations from Isolation”, a COVID-19 series


The Cameron University Art Teaching Gallery will present “Observations from Isolation,” an art exhibit inspired by COVID-19 created Elizabeth Yarosz-Ash. The exhibit will open on Thursday, November 12, with a reception and artist talk at 6 p.m. The event is open to the public at no charge. The Art Teaching Gallery is located in the Art Building on the east side of the Cameron campus. A maximum of 10 patrons at a time will be allowed into the gallery and hallway exhibition space. Facial coverings are required.
