Cameron University’s Bill W. Burgess Jr. Business Research Center (BBRC) will present “The Potential Impact of Raising the Minimum Wage.” The business forum will take place on Thursday, November 7, at 12:30 p.m. in the Mary Lou and W. Carey Johnson Auditorium, Room 111 in Ross Hall. There is no charge to attend.
Cameron University will celebrate all things military during Vet Fest, a two-day event hosted by the Office of Veterans Affairs. Community members, including veterans, military service members and dependents, are invited to a variety of events scheduled for Wednesday, November 6, and Thursday, November 7, at the McMahon Centennial Complex.
Ginny Mac, one of today’s most vocal proponents of Western Swing, brings her distinctive sound to Cameron University’s Country Jazz Fusion on Tuesday, November 5, when she’ll join the CU Jazz Ensemble and the Lawton Jazz Orchestra for a night of country and jazz classics. Country Jazz Fusion will start at 7:30 p.m. in the University Theatre. The concert is open to the public at no charge.
Cameron University’s Visiting Writers Series, presented by the Department of Communications, English and Foreign Languages, will welcome LMG “Mike” Swain on Friday, November 15. The prolific horror writer will read selections from his work in Room 2060 of Nance-Boyer Hall starting at 7 p.m. The event is open to the public at no charge.
Yuan Ling Looi (Elene) has joined the Cameron University staff as Director of Institutional Effectiveness. As the chief data officer for the university, Looi ensures the integrity of data and information released in reports and studies. She provides leadership for and manages all necessary functions relating to the collection, organization, maintenance, sharing, analysis and interpretation of data for both internal and external constituencies.
Cameron University-Duncan will continue its series of workshops aimed at helping parents who have homeschooled high school students prepare for post-secondary education with “Paying for Post-Secondary Education.” The free, informational session is set for Thursday, November 14, from 6 to 7 p.m. at CU-Duncan. Interested parents and students from southwest Oklahoma are welcome to attend either virtually or in person.
Students in Cameron University’s Opera Workshop class will present Leonard Bernstein’s “Trouble in Tahiti,” a one-act opera first produced in 1952, to demonstrate their skills as opera singers. The opera workshop takes place on Thursday, November 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the McCutcheon Recital Hall. The event is sponsored by a grant from the Southwest Oklahoma Opera Guild and is open to the public at no charge.
Cameron University is proud to display more than 7,000 American flags across campus beginning on Monday, November 4, as a lead-up to the university’s annual observance of Veterans Day. Residents of southwest Oklahoma are invited to visit CU to pay homage to the patriotism and service of America’s military while the flags are on display.
Active members of the U.S. Armed Forces, veterans and dependents are invited to Cameron University’s Military Veterans Resource Fair slated for Wednesday, November 6, and Thursday, November 7. The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the first floor of the McMahon Centennial Complex. The building is located at University Drive and D Avenue. Visitor parking is available across the street.
