CU Money Smart summer camp aimed at elementary and middle school students

What is the best age for parents to start teaching their children how to manage money? Financial advisors and money managers across the country have the answer: Children as young as 3 years old can grasp basic money concepts, and by age 7, many of their money habits are set. In an initiative to help parents provide their children with money management skills, the Cameron University Department of Business is offering CU Money Smart, a summer camp set for Tuesday through Thursday, June 10, 11 and 12, from 9 a.m. to Noon in Ross Hall.

Elementary and middle school students entering grades 2 through 7 will learn financial literacy tips and concepts that can have a positive impact on their lives. There is no charge to attend, although registration is required. To register, go to https://www.cameron.edu/public-affairs/summer-camps and scroll down to “CU Money Smart Camp.”

The camp will provide engaging activities that will introduce campers to concepts such as budgeting for the family, saving and investing money and thinking like an entrepreneur. Students will be placed in three groups based on their school grade. A variety of games and exercises will be used to explain the concepts. Snacks, prizes and t-shirts will be provided.

Hosted by the Bill Burgess Jr. Business Research Center and the CU Department of Business, CU Money Smart is made possible by the Dr. Gilbert “Gib” Gibson Lectureship in Community Banking.
