The Cameron University chapter of Phi Eta Sigma, nation’s oldest and largest honor society for first year students, has welcomed 37 new members, who earned the qualification criteria in the spring or fall of 2020. Phi Eta Sigma, with chapters on more than 375 college campuses across the nation, encourages and rewards academic excellence achieved by students during their freshman year in institutions of higher learning.
Almost 400 students from more than 50 Oklahoma high schools made up the 97 teams that participated in Cameron University’s annual Agriculture Interscholastic Meet on April 7. The event helps agriculture students hone their skills in areas ranging from practical animal science and agronomy to leadership and business while it prepares the students for the state competition. Cameron has hosted the meet for more than 50 years.
Cameron University’s Department of Social Sciences will explore degree plans, career options and more during “CU in Sociology and Criminal Justice,” a virtual workshop scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 29. Lonny D. Morrison, a Cameron graduate who was named Distinguished Alumnus in 2014, will deliver the commencement address to the Cameron University Class of 2021. He will speak at both commencement ceremonies, slated for Friday, May 7, and Saturday, May 8, at 7:30 p.m. at Cameron Stadium.
The Cameron University Concert Choir will be joined by MacArthur High School’s Women’s Choir for a special concert on Tuesday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Cameron University Theatre. Seating is limited; to reserve a ticket, call 580-581-2478.

The Cameron University Concert Band and Fort Sill’s 77th Army Band will present a salute to famed composer and band leader John Philip Sousa during a concert on Saturday, April 24, at 7 p.m. in the Cameron University Fine Arts Courtyard. While the outdoor concert will allow for more patrons, seating is limited to 70. Social distancing will be in place, and facial coverings are required. There is no charge to attend.
The Cameron University Department of Art, Music and Theatre Arts will present the CU Percussion Ensemble in concert on Thursday, April 22. The concert will feature guest percussionist Ivan Trevino, who will perform several of his own compositions for marimba. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Cameron University Theatre.
