The Cameron University Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of two endowed scholarships that will benefit military science students in perpetuity. The LTG (R) Randall L. and Carol A. Rigby Endowed Scholarship in Military Science is earmarked for full-time CU students who demonstrate an intent to join CU’s Army ROTC program in pursuit of an officer’s commission. The CU Comanche Military Science Club Endowed Scholarship is open to any full-time CU student, with preference given to students studying military science.
Cameron University’s George D. Keathley Department of Military Science has presented awards and scholarships to members of the Comanche Battalion, Cameron’s Army ROTC unit. The Comanche Battalion recognized cadets for meritorious performance in military science, academics, physical fitness, personal achievement and leadership. Awards are sponsored by the Department of the Army, national and local societies, organizations, and businesses and private individuals.
The Cameron University/Lawton Civic Chorus, the Lawton Schubert Music Club and Fort Sill's New Post Chapel will join together for the 79th annual presentation of Handel's “Messiah.” The popular Lawton tradition will take place on Saturday, December 12, at 7:30 p.m. and can be viewed during a live stream via Facebook. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the performance will not have an in-person audience. The performance will be approximately one hour in length and will feature soloists and a professional orchestra that accompanies the volunteer chorus. Cameron University’s Bill W. Burgess, Jr. Business Research Center (BBRC) will host “COVID-19 and Our Community,” a business forum that will examine the impact of the current pandemic in our community. The forum will take place on Thursday, December 3, at 4 p.m. in the McCasland Ballroom of the McMahon Centennial Complex. Although the event is open to the public at no charge, seating is limited. In-person attendees will be asked to follow social distancing protocols and must wear a facial covering.
Cameron University will be closed from November 25-27 for celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday. No classes will be held during this time, and administrative offices will be closed. Classes resume and offices re-open for normal business hours on Monday, November 30.
Cameron University staff members Tiffany Hamilton, Tina Nickell and Brandy Scott are the recipients of the 2020 Pickaxe Awards, which recognize full-time Cameron employees whose performance is above and beyond expectations. Hamilton is an administrative assistant in the Department of Education, Nickell is an administrative assistant in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, and Scott is an administrative assistant in the Department of Sports and Exercise Science. Each received a $1,000 stipend and a commemorative award.
On Giving Tuesday, a worldwide day of philanthropy benefitting charitable causes, the Cameron University Foundation hopes to receive gifts from 100 donors. Giving Tuesday takes place on Tuesday, December 1. All gifts received that day will be earmarked for the Cameron Aggie Response (CARE) Fund. Cameron University’s Department of Art, Music, and Theatre Arts will continue its 2020-21 theatre season, celebrating “Festival XI: Connections: Information Transfer Between People,” with Jeff Goode’s “The Eight: The Reindeer Monologues.” This dark comedy will be presented in the University Theatre from November 19 to 22 The curtain goes up on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for senior citizens, military, Cameron faculty and staff, and non-Cameron students. CU students receive Free admission with their CU I.D. Due to COVID-19 protocols, seating is limited and tickets must be reserved in advance.
