Cameron University has received a five-year grant totaling $2,088,635 from the U.S. Department of Education for CU’s Open Doors/Talent Search program. Open Doors/Talent Search serves 775 participants throughout Lawton Public Schools’ 6th through 12th grades. The grant funding period starts on September 1, 2021, allowing the university to continue its work in supporting the concept that anyone, regardless of race, ethnic background or economic circumstances, can complete a program of postsecondary education.
Cameron University professor Hyunsoon Whang will be joined by violinist David Kim, concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra, when she takes the stage at the Cameron University Theatre on Tuesday, August 24. Kim and Whang will present a recital featuring the complete Brahms sonatas for violin and piano.
The 7:30 p.m. performance is sponsored by Cameron University Lectures and Concerts Series and community member Pam Marion. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for senior citizens/military/K-12 students. CU students are admitted at no charge with valid CU id.
The Cameron Psychology Clinic (CPC), an educational facility that allows Cameron University graduate students pursing a Master of Science in Behavioral Sciences degree to undergo experiential learning, will begin seeing clients on Monday, August 23. Hours of operation for the fall semester will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 3 to 6 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call 580-581-3153 or email cpc@cameron.edu.
Cameron University has a full slate of activities planned for new and returning students during Welcome Week, which kicks off on Sunday, August 15, and continues through Thursday, August 19. Welcome Week activities are open to all Cameron students at no charge and are sponsored by the Programming Activities Council (PAC), a student-led organization, unless otherwise noted.
Calling all new, continuing or returning students who have been putting off enrollment for the Fall 2021 semester! Cameron University will host a walk-in enrollment clinic at the Lawton campus on Saturday, August 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Just head to the first floor of North Shepler Tower, located in the Shepler Center, and you’ll be able to get assistance in the areas of admissions, financial aid, veterans educational benefits, academic advising and enrollment. The Shepler Center is located off Elsie Hamm Blvd. east of 38th Street; ample parking is available.
Cameron University and City National Bank & Trust have been selected as recipients of a 2021 Business Partnership Excellence Award by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE).
Cameron University has announced the names of faculty members who will take over as chairs in several academic departments. Effective August 1, Dr. Muhammad Javed will assume the position of interim chair in the Department of Mathematical Sciences. Lt. Col. Peter Salfeety was appointed chair of the George D. Keathly Department of Military Science in June. Previously, Dr. Kyle Moore was named academic chair of the Department of Chemistry, Physics and Engineering.
Cameron University is pleased to announce the names of students who completed graduation requirements at the end of the Spring 2021 semester. Graduates who authorized publication of their name are listed by degree and hometown.
The Cameron Collegian was the winner of the Sequoyah Award in the College Newspapers division of the Oklahoma Press Association’s (OPA) 2020 Best Newspaper Contest.
