Staff Awards for Excellence presented by CU




Three Cameron employees have been honored with the university’s Staff Awards for Excellence. Aldrick Bissette, Kay Means and Billie Whipp. Nominations were made by CU students, faculty and staff. In order to be eligible, nominees must have been employed full-time at Cameron for at least one year.

Staff Award for Excellence in Campus Stewardship: Aldrick Bissette

The Staff Award for Excellence in Campus Stewardship recognizes significant contributions to the campus community. Bissette, an assisant systems administrator for Information Technology Services, is the recipient. Bissette was depicted as a key resource who fosters a collaborative and productive team environment. One nominator wrote, “We escalate issues to Aldrick when problems arise due to his expertise and willingness to quickly resolve issues and ensure minimal downtime.” Another described him as reliable and also cited Bissette’s willingness to alleviate his co-workers’ workloads.

Staff Award for Excellence in Service: Kay Means

The Staff Award for Excellence in Service recognizes exemplary contributions in the area of campus or community service. Means, assistant director of admissions, received the award. In that role, she provides outstanding customer service to not only prospective students and their families but high school counselors. The nominator mentioned Means’ role in mentoring CU’s PLUS scholars and referred to her as “a positive and encouraging person who speaks highly of CU in the community.”

Staff Award for Excellence in Student Success: Billie Whipp

The Staff Award for Excellence in Student Success recognizes a staff member who promotes a student-centered environment. The award was presented to Whipp, coordinator of student success in the Student Enrichment Center. While serving in this role, she has cultivated an environment of collaboration and innovation, ensuring that her team is equipped to serve students in the most effective and impactful way possible. The nominator cited Whipp’s commitment to community engagement as a means to create opportunities for students, adding, “Her dedication to student success goes beyond her role – she consistently goes above and beyond to ensure that students have the support they need.”

The Cameron University Staff Awards were created during the Fall 2014 semester at the recommendation of Cameron’s Staff Advisory Council.
