Cameron University’s Dr. Krystal Brue was honored recently with the Lumineer Award by the Oklahoma Human Resources State Council (SHRM-OK), an affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management. The award celebrates human resource professionals with a legacy of excellence and service and is presented to individuals who have at least five years of dedicated contributions to the HR profession. Honorees are recognized for being a go-to resource and mentor in HR, offering guidance and solutions to HR challenges, acting as a connector and network builder within the profession and exemplifying a commitment to lifting others and advancing HR.
"Dr. Krystal Brue is a dedicated advocate for the human resources profession,” says Dena Culpepper, executive director of SHRM Oklahoma. “She is committed to educating future leaders and fostering meaningful connections that support professional growth within the industry. Her volunteer work with OK SHRM further demonstrates her commitment to elevating the field of HR and advancing its impact on the broader world of work. We are proud to recognize and celebrate her contributions to the profession."
Brue, chair of the Department of Business and an assistant dean, is the fourth recipient of the award, which was introduced in 2022. She was recognized for mentoring students and emerging professionals in the HR field, connecting students to HR professionals across the state and volunteering to help local non-profits with HR related issues.
After serving as an adjunct faculty member for 20 years, Brue joined the CU faculty as an assistant professor in July 2013. She was promoted to full professor in 2024 and has served as the chair of the Department of Business since June 2019. In August 2022, she was also named an assistant dean for the School of Graduate and Professional Studies and the School of Arts and Sciences.
Brue is dedicated to improving student engagement and student retention while offering rigorous and valued curriculum. She has been recognized with the Faculty Award for Excellence in Service and has been inducted into the Cameron University Alumni Association’s Faculty Hall of Fame. As Assistant Dean of Outreach, she has played a vital role in the development and implementation for improved marketing, recruitment and student service strategies.
In addition to her service to the campus community, she is heavily involved in management and human resource-related initiatives throughout the region. Her certifications include SHRM Senior Certified Professional and Senior Professional in Human Resources by the Human Resources Certification Institute. She has sponsored student research, has provided pro bono HR assistance to numerous business and civic entities, and has served in leadership positions for state and regional HR organizations. Brue has also presented workshops at local, state, regional and national conferences and has published articles on leadership, work-life balance, harassment prevention and managing teams.
Earlier this year, she was honored with the 2025 ACBSP Teaching Excellence Award by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs, representing the organization’s Region 6 (Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas). The accolade is bestowed upon educators who demonstrate outstanding teaching prowess within the academic realm.
