Beginning on November 4, more than 7,000 American flags will be displayed across the Cameron University campus in Lawton as a lead-up to the university’s annual observance of Veterans Day. It’s a stunning view that Cameron President John McArthur hopes will attract visitors to campus to acknowledge the service of U.S. service members and veterans.
With the premiere of “Prey,” a feature film focusing on a small band of Comanches, a humanoid predator and French fur trappers, Comanche culture and history take a fantastic albeit fictitious journey into science fiction and horror. It’s one of the films to be discussed by guest speaker Dustin Tahmahkera, associate professor and Wick Cary Endowed Chair in Native American Cultural Studies at the University of Oklahoma, during “Cinematic Comanches.” Tahmahkera and his aunt, the late Juanita Pahdopony, served as consultants for the film to ensure that their culture was portrayed accurately.
Cameron University’s Visiting Writer’s Series continues on Friday, November 11, with novelist and short story writer Oscar Hokeah. The author will read samples of his work starting at 7 p.m. in the McCasland Ballroom of the McMahon Centennial Complex.
Cameron University’s Office of Veterans Affairs is pleased to present its second VetFest, a celebration of military history. VetFest is open to the public and takes place on Monday, November 7, and Tuesday, November 8.
During the week of October 31, Cameron University will recognize the academic achievements of its students during Scholars Convocation Week, which celebrates the research, scholarly and creative activities of CU students, faculty and staff.
Open enrollment for the Spring 2023 semester at Cameron University starts on Monday, October 31, allowing students to continue earning credits toward a degree in their chosen academic program.
As part of its first Scholars Convocation Week observance, Cameron University is pleased to recognize students who have been awarded academic scholarships based on merit. During the week of October 31, Cameron will celebrate the academic achievements of its students with a weeklong observance which recognizes which celebrates the research, scholarly and creative activities of CU students, faculty and staff.
High school students and their parents are invited to Cameron University’s Fall Preview Day, an informational event for prospective college students that will provide a jam-packed look at the admissions process, campus life, financial assistance, degree programs and what it means to be a Cameron Aggie in one setting. The multi-faceted event is set for Thursday, November 10, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Active members of the U.S. Armed Forces as well as veterans and their dependents are invited to Cameron University’s Military Veterans Resource Fair, slated for November 7-8. The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the first floor of the McMahon Centennial Complex. The building is located at University Drive and D Avenue. Visitor parking is available across the street.
