Individuals from all walks of life who want to enter the teaching profession are encouraged to attend “CU Become a Teacher,” a virtual workshop that will present the multiple pathways to becoming a certified teacher. The Zoom presentation will take place on Monday, April 15, at 5 p.m. and will offer information to those who have a college degree, those who have earned college credit but have yet to earn a degree, and those who have yet to earn college credit.
Cameron University has earned the 2024-25 Military Friendly® School Gold designation from G.I. Jobs magazine. CU was one of just 243 schools chosen for gold award status in recognition of its leading practices, outcomes and effective programs. The gold designation indicates that CU is rated within 10 percent of the 10th-ranked organization for the category of small public universities.
Cameron University piano students will be joined by fellow music students to present Soirée XV: Schubertiade II, a concert featuring only compositions by Franz Shubert. During the concert, the pianists will
perform as collaborators in a recital that will allow pianists, vocalists and other musicians to shine. Soirée XV: Schubertiade II is slated for Friday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the McCutcheon Recital Hall.
Cameron University’s Office of Student Development will present the Leadership without Limitations Summit, an opportunity to learn how to unleash your leadership potential while overcoming personal challenges. The half-day event is slated for Friday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Mary Lou and W. Carey Johnson Auditorium in Ross Hall. The event is open to the public at no charge.
Middle school girls who are entering 6th, 7th or 8th grades in Fall 2024 and who have an interest in mathematics, aerospace and other STEM disciplines are encouraged to apply for Cameron University’s Applied Mathematics and Aerospace Engineering Summer Academy. The residential academy is scheduled for June 2-7 on Cameron’s Lawton campus. There is no charge to participate. Only 12 students will be accepted.
Natalie Shirley, past chair and member of the University of Oklahoma, Cameron University and Rogers State University Board of Regents, will deliver Cameron University’s Commencement address to the Class of 2024 on Friday, May 3, in Cameron Stadium. The ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Cameron University-Duncan invites its students and alumni as well as community members to a free screening of the critically acclaimed movie, “Wonka.” The screening is slated for Friday, April 19, at 6:30 p.m. at the historic Palace Theatre, located at 926 W. Main Street in Duncan. Parking is accessible via Willow Avenue. Seating is first-come, first-served.
Cameron University’s Visiting Writer’s Series continues on Friday, April 26, with poet Wendy Dunmeyer. The author will read samples of her work starting at 7 p.m. in Room 2005 in Nance-Boyer Hall.
Cameron University’s Dr. Hyunsoon Whang will be joined by nationally renowned violinist Destiny Ann Mermagen and cellist Michael Mermegan for “Trio Barn Burners.” During the concert, they will perform trios by Haydn and Dvorak as well as Paul Schoenfield’s Café Music. The concert takes place on Sunday, April 7, at 3 p.m. in the University Theatre.
