Cameron University to hold inaugural Cameron Leadership Academy this summer

A grant from the City of Lawton’s Youth and Family Affairs committee will make possible the inaugural Cameron Leadership Academy, a five-day summer residential experience designed to provide high school freshmen and sophomore students within the Lawton/Fort Sill community with opportunities to explore leadership styles, post-secondary pathways, academic skills, and life skills. The academy, which is open to rising Lawton Public School and homeschooled freshmen and sophomores, will take place from Monday, June 13, through Friday, June 17, at the Cameron University Lawton campus. There is no charge to attend, and transportation to and from campus will be provided.

To apply, go to https://www.cameron.edu/cameron-leadership-academy. The academy has a priority application deadline of Wednesday, May 25. Applications received after that date will be considered until the academy is full.

“The Cameron Leadership Academy will serve as a bridge opportunity for Lawton youth to learn about the postsecondary opportunities in Lawton/Fort Sill while leaning about themselves and their leadership capacity,” says Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success Dr. Jerrett Phillips. “We are taking applications now and encourage Lawton 9th and 10th graders [as of this fall] to apply.”

The academy will offer activities that will help students develop career skills, post-secondary plans, and relationships with academy staff and students. Participants will meet education and workforce professionals, engage in learning assessments, learn about future occupational opportunities, increase their financial literacy skills, and more.
