Cameron University establishes endowed scholarship in tribute to historian John Armstrong Beckman


The late John Armstrong Beckman loved history and considered himself fortunate to be able to work in a field that he adored. In addition to serving as a registrar for the Fort Sill Museum for 27 years, he utilized his knowledge of history into the classroom, teaching at Cameron as an adjunct instructor for almost 20 years. Beckman’s love of history will continue to impact CU students in perpetuity with the John Armstrong Beckman Endowed Scholarship in Social Sciences.


CU Write Essay Contest winners announced


Cameron University’s English program is pleased to announce the winners of the first CU Write Essay Content, which is funded by the John C. Paynter Endowed Lectureship in Communications. The content is designed to recognize and award outstanding examples of each major assignment in the English composition course curriculum sequence. Winning essays will be included as examples for students in the new OER textbook for English Composition, “CU Write.”


Cameron University invites community members to learn efforts against human trafficking


The Cameron University Department of Social Sciences, in conjunction with The Red Cord and the Human Trafficking Training Center, will host a community workshop focusing on the problem of human trafficking on Monday, April 25, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Shepler Ballroom. Area residents will learn about human trafficking in the community and how to support law enforcement in their efforts.


CU in Pre-Law to offer information on how to prepare for a career in the legal field


What do law schools look for in potential Juris Doctorate students? Those who have a comprehensive baccalaureate education that includes coursework encompassing effective communication, persuasion, research, exposure to the law, critical thinking and more. CU in Pre-Law will highlight how a Cameron University bachelor’s degree program, such as Political Science or History, partnered with a minor in Pre-Law, can pave the way to admission to law school or a career in the legal field. The virtual session takes place on Thursday, April 28, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.


Cameron University pays homage to the late Benson Warren with sculpture exhibition


The Cameron University Department of Art, Music and Theatre Arts will pay homage to the late Benson Warren, a long-time faculty member who taught sculpture, design and various other art classes to CU students for 40 years, with a sculpture exhibition starting on Friday, April 22. “Collective Castings: An Homage to Benson Warren” will feature works created by Warren as well as one of his former students, Tanya Synar, and a former colleague and fellow sculptor, Robbie Barber.
