Modified CDC protocols for COVID-19

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) issued new COVID-19 guidelines that went into effect on Dec. 2, 2020. Cameron University will follow the updated guidance for all quarantine cases. There has been no update concerning isolation cases (for individuals who test positive for COVID).
For individuals who are currently under quarantine, the university will make contact as their new release date approaches.
Under the new guidelines, those quarantined can be released after 10 days post-contact if no symptoms are present; however, individuals must continue to monitor their health and follow the CDC safety guidelines.
Those under quarantine can be released after 7 days post-contact if:
A diagnostic test (Rapid Test or PCR) performed no earlier than the fifth day past exposure is negative (documentation required), and
No symptoms are present; and
Wellness must be monitored daily and CDC safety guidelines are followed.
The quarantine for households with a known case will follow the new protocol. A close contact’s quarantine will begin after the positive case isolation (10 days) ends unless a last exposure date can be established. The quarantine will be for 10 days, but can be released early under the new guidance.
The new guidelines require that individuals must be free of fever for 24 hours without fever-reducing medications.
A comprehensive campus update will be provided in January 2021 to address any emerging pandemic topics, such as vaccine approval.
