Those who love classical music won’t want to miss the Cameron University Civic Symphony, an ensemble comprised of community members and CU students. The ensemble will present a concert of classic music in the McCutcheon Recital Hall on Tuesday, February 28, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
The Cameron University Department of Art, Music, and Theatre Arts will continue its 2022-2023 “Monster of a Season” with “She Kills Monsters” by Qui Nguyen. The production will be presented in the University Theatre from Thursday, February 23, through Sunday, February 26. The curtain goes up on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the University Theatre.
The Cameron University Alumni Association is pleased to announce the winners of the 2023 Distinguished Alumni and Outstanding Young Alumni honorees as well as inductees into the CUAA Faculty Hall of Fame. The awards will be presented during the university’s homecoming festivities. Charlotte Oates and Capt. Gary “Mike” Rose (Ret.) will receive Distinguished Alumni Awards. Travis Burch and Jamie Smith have been named Outstanding Young Alumni, and Dr. Krystal Brue will be inducted into the Faculty Hall of Fame. The awards will be presented during the an awards dinner on Saturday, February 11, in the McCasland Ballroom.
Cameron University’s Visiting Writer’s Series continues on Friday, February 10, with poet Mary B. Gray. The author will read samples of her work starting at 7 p.m. in the Wichita Room of the Shepler Center.
Works by Cameron University students will be on public display in the Cameron University Art Teaching Gallery, located in the Art Building, in conjunction with the Fourth Annual Student Art Competition and Exhibition. Featuring works of art created in a multitude of media, the exhibition will open with a reception and announcement of awards on Thursday, February 9, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
A team of Cameron University students was named the undergraduate level winner of the 2022 National Government Finance Case Challenge, sponsored by the Association of Government Accountants. Tiffany Bass, Natalie Martin and Taylor Rowley, who were students in CU’s Government Accounting class taught by Bernadette Lonzanida, senior instructor, in Fall 2022, each received a $1,000 scholarship award. The competition was open to graduate and undergraduate students nationwide.
High school juniors and seniors are invited to become a “Music Major for a Day” at Cameron University on Friday, February 24. The event takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is open to vocalists, string players, brass players, woodwind players, percussionists, pianists and composers. There is no charge to attend.
The Cameron University Office of Veterans Affairs will host a claims processor from the Muskogee VA Regional Processing Office on Wednesday, February 1. The veterans claims examiner will be on the Cameron campus to assist veterans, active service members and their dependents.
Cameron University’s Dr. Matt Jenkins will premiere his latest feature film, “Rage, Fear, Love,” on Monday, February 13, at Lawton’s Vaska Theater. The movie will start at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
