Discover pathways to teacher certification during CU Become a Teacher virtual workshop


Individuals from all walks of life who want to enter the teaching profession are encouraged to attend “CU Become a Teacher,” a virtual workshop that will present the multiple pathways to becoming a certified teacher. The Zoom presentation will take place on Monday, April 3, at 5:30 p.m. and will offer information to those who have a college degree, those who have earned college credit but have yet to earn a degree, and those who have yet to earn college credit.


Tree planting gives biology students first hand knowledge


When Cameron University added three Arizona cypress trees to campus grounds recently, students of Dr. Mike Husak’s Principles of Biology 2 and Patrick McAnerney’s Plants and Culture classes were on-hand to examine the specimens and learn about how this particular species is suited for the southwest Oklahoma climate.


Aerospace engineering summer academy allows middle school girls to explore STEM subjects


Middle schools girls who are entering 6th, 7th or 8th grades in Fall 2023 and who have an interest in mathematics, aerospace and other STEM disciplines are encouraged to apply for Cameron University’s Applied Mathematics and Aerospace Engineering Summer Academy. The residential academy is scheduled for June 4-9 on Cameron’s Lawton campus. There is no charge to participate. Only 12 students will be accepted.


Learn how to gain provisional teaching certification during CU Be A Special Education Teacher


Are you interested in teaching teach PK-12 students with special needs? If you already have a bachelor’s degree, then Cameron University’s CU Be A Special Education Teacher, a virtual learning session, will walk you through the steps to achieve certification in special education. Cameron closing for Spring Break; Aggie Rec Center sets special hours


Cameron University will mark the midpoint of the Spring 2023 semester with Spring Break from March 13-17. No classes will be held during this time, and administrative offices will be closed. The Eugene D. McMahon Library will be closed from March 13-19. Classes will resume and administrative offices as well as the library will re-open for normal business hours on Monday, March 20.


Classic film lecture to focus on film noir, New Hollywood and “Chinatown”


Cinema enthusiasts with a penchant for film noir will learn more about the genre during "Forget it Jake, It's Chinatown: Second-Wave Film Noir,” a lecture by Dr. Jeff Menne, a professor at Oklahoma State University. His presentation will focus on director Roman Polanski’s 1974 neo-noir film, “Chinatown.” The event takes place in the McCasland Ballroom on Thursday, March 23, at 7 p.m. and is open to the public at no charge.


KCCU’S Bekah Fountain receives award for volunteer work on behalf of veterans


Bekah Fountain, news director, for KCCU, has been recognized with the Carolyn Stone Award, presented by the Comanche County Veterans Council (CCVC), for her volunteer work. The award was created to honor those who have given their time to help veterans’ causes. A plaque commemorating Fountain’s selection for the award will be displayed on the “Wall of Honor” at the Fort Sill Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic.


Cameron University-Duncan to offer career pathways conference for high school, college students


Cameron University-Duncan, in collaboration with Duncan Regional Hospital, Exploring Healthcare Career Opportunities and the Duncan Area Economic Development Foundation, will present Prepared for Success, a career-ready conference, on Wednesday, March 29, from 8:15 until 10:45 a.m. The event takes place at CU-Duncan and is open to high school students throughout southwest Oklahoma as well as current Cameron University students. There is no charge to attend. Pre-registration is encouraged and can be completed at https://www.cameron.edu/duncan/events. Registrations will also be accepted on-site.
