Williams named interim director of Cameron Psychology Clinic

Dr. Joe Williams has been named interim clinical director of the Cameron Psychology Clinic.

Williams, an assistant professor of psychology at Cameron University and a licensed marriage and family therapist supervisor, assumed his duties Aug. 10.

“Dr. Williams brings a wealth of clinical, academic and leadership experience to the role,” said Dr. Stephanie White, chair of the CU Department of Psychology. “Both as a faculty member and as program lead in the marriage and family therapy track in our degree program, he is committed to advancing high-quality training, ethical practices and compassionate care in our community.”

Williams is a CU alumnus, holding three degrees from the university – an associate degree, a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies, and his Master of Science degree in Behavioral Science. He earned his Ph.D. in Psychology from Capella University in 2022. He also completed elementary education coursework at Langston University.

Williams joined the Cameron faculty as an adjunct instructor in 2011, taking an appointment as assistant professor in 2023. In addition to his role as interim director of the clinic, Williams is the program lead for CU’s marriage and family therapy program.

His credentials include certifications as a teacher, school counselor and principal. He is licensed as a marriage and family therapist in both Oklahoma and Texas, and an LMFT supervisor in Oklahoma. He is also licensed clergy.

Williams has served on a number of campus committees during his time at Cameron, as well as boards and coalitions in the community. He currently serves as president-elect of the Oklahoma Association of Marriage and Family Therapy.

Cameron University established the Cameron Psychology Clinic in 2016 to better serve mental health needs in Lawton. The innovative clinic provides graduate students with hands-on training under the supervision of experienced, licensed faculty members while providing free access to mental health services to members of the community who may not otherwise have access to such care.

The clinic provides counseling services to individuals, couples and families free of charge. Children are treated within the context of families when deemed appropriate.

More information about services offered by the clinic is available by calling 580-581-3153 between 3-6 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, or 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
