CU’s Vicki Henson honored by national association

Vicki Henson, assistant director of financial assistance and coordinator of veterans affairs at Cameron University, was honored during the recent fall conference of the Oklahoma Veteran Education Specialist Association (OVESA). She received a challenge coin by Stephen Rudnick, an approving officer with the State Approving Agency, a division of the Oklahoma State Department of Veterans Affairs, on behalf of the National Association of State Approving Agencies.

Rudnick spoke of Henson’s work with the VA National Education Service Collaborative Group, which provides ideas and input to improve services offered to institutions and veterans across the United States. He also acknowledged her service as current president of OVESA and her continuing efforts to provide full-service events and resources to veterans of the Armed Forces, current members of the military, and military-dependents, whether they are Cameron University students or community members.

Henson joined the CU staff in 1986 after receiving her M.S. in Higher Education from Oklahoma State University. She continues to be active in numerous associations related to veteran education. She is a two-time past president of the Western Association of Veterans Educational Specialists (WAVES) and a former president of the Oklahoma Association of Coordinators and Counselors.

She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the (WAVES) Bill Pearson Lifetime Achievement Award (2003), the WAVES Diana Davis Service Award for Excellence (2016), and the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Fires Chapter Community Care Giver Award, among many others.
