CU Interscholastics to attract competitors from 12 southwest Oklahoma high schools

Cameron University is preparing its campus to host the 44th edition of its annual interscholastic contest on Friday. More than 350 students from a dozen southwest Oklahoma high schools have registered to participate.

Interscholastic competition involves 43 events representing all of Cameron’s major academic areas. A sampling of subjects includes algebra, biology, chemistry, computer science, economics, foreign languages, history, journalism, literature, music performance, physics and trigonometry.

“Cameron University loves to host this annual event because it is an exciting opportunity for students from area schools to compete in subjects they are passionate about,” said contest coordinator Dr. Dana Lee. “Winners get to stand out among their peers and enhance their college applications.

“This event also showcases what a college campus environment is like,” she added. “Visiting students get to take tours of campus and learn about the academic programs Cameron offers.”

Contestants will represent the following high schools: Altus, Anadarko, Big Pasture, Cache, Cyril, Lawton Eisenhower, Lawton High, Lawton McArthur, the LPS Life Ready Center, Ninnekah, Sterling and Temple.

The top five finishers in each of the 43 events will be recognized with certificates. First-place winners in each division also receive Cameron t-shirts.
