The Cameron University Strategic Campaign Communications class will host “An Evening with Johnny ‘Roastbeef’ Williams” at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at the Vaska Theatre in Lawton. The event is free and open to the public.
Williams is a character actor best known for appearances in “Goodfellas” (1990), “Honeymoon in Vegas” (1992), “The Mask” (1994) and “Green Book” (2018). He will discuss each production and share behind-the-scenes experiences from his career. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask Williams questions about his craft.
Frank Santos, a member of the event’s management team, said he hopes the event will encourage Aggie students to become more involved in activities outside the classroom.
“I hope people learn about what a great event movie night is, and I hope that people – specifically Cameron students – become more motivated to attend extracurricular events,” Santos said.
Makayla Flenoury, also a member of the event’s management team, said Williams’ participation gives the community a unique opportunity to hear from someone with experience in the film industry.
“Mr. Williams is doing us a great service by giving us his time,” Flenoury said. “Without his participation, our class wouldn't be able to give students, faculty and the Lawton community the opportunity to speak with someone who has worked on the production of many great movies.”
The evening will also showcase short films created by CU students and faculty. Multiple student organizations will showcase promotional videos during the event.
Concessions, including fresh popcorn, will be available for purchase as attendees enjoy an evening celebrating storytelling, filmmaking and the work of Cameron students and faculty.
