Cameron University looks forward to seeing new and returning students during Welcome Week events

Cameron University has a full slate of activities planned for new and returning students during Welcome Week, which kicks off on Sunday, August 15, and continues through Thursday, August 19. Welcome Week activities are open to all Cameron students at no charge and are sponsored by the Programming Activities Council (PAC), a student-led organization, unless otherwise noted.

Welcome Week starts with a family-friendly Block Party in Bentley Gardens from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. The Block Party, sponsored by PAC and the Office of Campus Life, is a great opportunity for students to relax and gear up for the start of fall classes on Monday. A variety of student organizations, campus departments and Paint the Town Black and Gold partners will be on hand to provide information and fun-filled activities.

On Monday, August 16 – the first day of fall classes – students should drop by PAC’s Color Me Cameron tie-dye event, which takes place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the lawn of the Sciences Complex. Express yourself by picking your own colors and designs to create an individualized tie-dye t-shirt.

Need a boost on the second day of class? Head to the Library parking lot for a free snow cone, provided by the Office of Campus Life, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Whether you’re a traditionalist who enjoys a simple grape snow cone or an adventurous type lured by exotic names such as Tiger’s Blood, Bahama Mama and Fuzzy Navel, you’re sure to find something to quench your thirst!

Students wanting to express their artistic abilities should head to PAC’s Paint Night, also on Tuesday, August 17, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the McCasland Ballroom in the McMahon Centennial Complex. Participants will be receive paints and supplies and will create their own masterpiece following step-by-step guided instruction.

On Wednesday, August 18, give in to your sweet tooth by dropping by PAC’s Sweet Thang Giveaway, starting at 11 a.m. in the lobby of the McMahon Centennial Complex. Pick up a yummy pastry but be quick, as the giveaway lasts only as long as the pastries do!

Show your support for Aggie athletics on Thursday, August 19, during a fun-filled pep rally and volleyball scrimmage in Aggie Gym. Doors will open at 5:15 p.m., and mini-games for prizes will start at 5:30 p.m. Students will receive a voucher for concessions. The pep rally kicks off at 6 p.m., followed by a volleyball scrimmage at approximately 6:30 p.m. The Aggie volleyball team starts its season on September 2 with numerous matches on the road, so they’re relying on the famed Aggie Spirit to carry them through until they return to Aggie Gym for a match on Wednesday, September 15.

Spirit shirts will be on sale all week in the Office of Campus Life, located on the second floor of the McMahon Centennial Complex. Shirts cost $5 with CU Student ID and $7 without CU Student ID.
