Cameron University kicks off seasonal festivities with tree lighting events in Lawton and Duncan

Community members from throughout southwest Oklahoma are invited to kick off the holiday season with Cameron University, which will host tree lighting events at both the Lawton and Duncan campuses. On Tuesday, December 2, festivities are scheduled at CU-Duncan beginning at 6 p.m., with festivities for the Lawton campus scheduled for Thursday, December 4, in Bentley Gardens at 6 p.m. Both events are open to the public at no charge. Ole Kim will lend a hand to light the tree at both locations, and attendees will receive a free commemorative Cameron tree ornament, while supplies last.

“I’m so excited to welcome community members to both our campuses to kick off the holiday season,” Cameron President Shane Hunt said, “I’m looking forward to seeing what visiting kids come up with at the craft stations and celebrating a wonderful year for the CU family.”

At the Lawton festivities, head inside the McMahon Centennial Complex to create holiday-themed trinkets and decorate some yummy cookies. Volunteers from CU’s student organizations will lend a hand at the s’mores station, and as tradition dictates, a carriage ride around Bentley Gardens is a must! Hot cocoa, apple cider and eggnog will be on tap to quench your thirst, and sensory-friendly room will be available for those wishing to get in the holiday spirit in a less stimulating environment.

Performances by the Cameron University Jazz Ensemble, Cameron University Concert Choir, bands from Lawton High School and Eisenhower High School and choirs from Eisenhower High School and Eisenhower Middle School will ring in the holiday spirit with musical offerings.

Those enjoying the Duncan festivities can look forward to a mini-train ride, cookie decorating, s’mores and holiday beverages to quench any thirst. The Cameron Concert Choir and the Central High School band will provide festive musical performances.

Parking for the CU-Lawton event is available at the intersection of S.W. University Drive and S.W. D Avenue.

CU-Duncan is located at 3100 W. Bois D’Arc Ave., with parking available adjacent to the building.
