Cameron University is inviting alumni to return to campus next week to join current students in celebrating its 2026 homecoming, “Road to Gold.” Student activities will run Monday, Sept. 28, through the following weekend, with alumni activities taking center stage on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 2-3.
It’s the first time in more than 30 years that Cameron has held homecoming in the fall. From the early 1990s until this year, the event was tied to late winter basketball games. The change back to the fall was made to strengthen participation and enhance homecoming’s overall impact on current and past Aggies.
For current students, each day of the week will feature special activities, from karaoke on Monday to building their own terrariums on Tuesday to a homecoming casino night and dance on Thursday. All events are sponsored by the university’s Programming Activities Council and take place in the McCasland Ballroom in the McMahon Centennial Complex, starting at 6 p.m.
Cameron’s Office of Events and Activities will sponsor activities for current Aggies throughout the week in its office, giving students a chance to win a free homecoming-themed t-shirt. The office will also team with Chick-fil-A for a giveaway Wednesday in Cameron Park, starting at 11 a.m.
Throughout the week, the campus will be decorated with outdoor boxes, sandwich boards and marquees designed by CU students.
Cameron’s Department of Art, Music and Theatre Arts will present the stage play, “They Promised Her the Moon,” about record-breaking Oklahoma aviator Jerrie Cobb, with performances in the University Theatre Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee finale on Sunday, Oct. 4.
Past students are expected on campus for traditional alumni activities starting Friday. CU Volleyball takes on the Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps at 6 p.m. in Aggie Gym for its “Dig Pink” match to increase breast cancer awareness. The Aggies then take on Midwestern State Saturday at 2 p.m. for its homecoming hall of fame game.
Following the Friday night match, the university will hand out homecoming ice cream floats in the Graybill Courtyard on the south side of CETES, with a fireworks planned at 9 p.m. (The status of the fireworks is tentative due to a current burn ban in effect in Comanche County.)
Prior to Saturday’s volleyball match, the university will host a tailgate party in the Administration Building parking lot from noon until the game’s start at 2 p.m. As part of the party, two Aggies will be crowned 2026 Homecoming Royalty during a ceremony in the Jesse Davenport Unity Garden near the McMahon Library.
Saturday will be a busy day for alums. In addition to the tailgate party and volleyball, the CU Alumni Association will host a breakfast at 8 a.m. in the ballroom of the Shepler Center. New members of the CU Athletics Hall of Fame will be inducted at a breakfast at 9 a.m. in the McCasland Ballroom.
Saturday evening, the classes of 1976 and 2001 will hold their respective 50th and 25-year reunions in the ballroom starting at 5:30 p.m., followed immediately by the annual alumni awards dinner and ceremony honoring distinguished alumni, outstanding young alumni and inductees into the CU Faculty Hall of Fame.
