Cameron University honors student housing resident assistants with awards

Cameron University’s Office of Student Housing and Residence Life recently recognized students who serve as resident assistants (RAs), who play a vital role in serving the students who live on campus in either the Shepler Towers or Cameron Village.

In announcing the awards, Tyler Anderson Majors, Director of Student Housing and Residence Life, provided information about each of the honorees.

Gracie Ortiz, Clyde, Texas, was named RA of the Year. “Gracie led with empathy, consistency and strong communication skills, serving as a role model for her peers and making a lasting impact on her residents,” says Anderson Majors.

Ortiz was also recognized as RA Passive Programmer of the Year. Anderson Majors states that “Gracie’s bulletin boards and other self-guided initiatives sparked interest and connection, helping build a sense of community in subtle but powerful ways.”

Clancy Kimble, Rapid City, S.D., was honored with the RA Volunteer of the Year award. According to Anderson Majors, “Clancy went above and beyond in offering support to others — always ready to lend a hand and step into roles where help was needed most.”

Ryan Kopp, Snyder, was recognized as RA Newcomer of the Year. “Ryan quickly adapted to the RA role, demonstrating professionalism and enthusiasm. His fresh perspective and strong work ethic were felt immediately by the team,” Anderson Majors says.

The award for RA Active Programmer of the Year was bestowed on Maria Savoca, Cochabamba, Bolivia, who developed and led numerous successful programs that were creative, engaging, and tailored to her residents’ interests and needs.

Rhys Edwards, Melbourne, Australia, was selected to receive the award for Team Player of the Year. Anderson Majors referred to him as “a consistent source of positivity and collaboration, helping foster a sense of unity and trust among the RA staff.”

Winners were selected through a peer voting process. All resident assistants are invited to vote for fellow team members based on their contributions in each award category. This process allows RAs to recognize and celebrate the strengths, dedication and impact of their peers.
