Cameron University Foundation establishes endowed lectureship to support high impact experiences for students

The Cameron University Foundation will establish the Oty McArthur Endowed Lectureship for High Impact Student Experiences. The endowment is made possible by a $50,000 gift from Dr. Karla J. Oty, director of Institutional Research, Assessment and Accountability, and President John McArthur.

The endowment will be used to support the participation of undergraduate students in high impact experiences outside the classroom. Examples include travel to conferences by undergraduate students and undergraduate student participation in scholarship, research or creative activities.

“High impact experiences provide significant educational benefits for students who participate in them,” says Oty. “Providing opportunities for undergraduate students to participate in activities outside of the classroom and to share those experiences with others helps promote deep learning and student engagement. These experiences also provide students with the opportunity to develop skills in critical thinking, problem solving, and communication.”

Oty and McArthur have been members of President’s Partners since joining the CU faculty in 2004. They established the McArthur Oty Endowed Scholarship in May 2014 to provide financial assistance to returning students who have earned college credit but never earned a degree.

The Cameron University Foundation welcomes additional contributions to these and other established endowments. To make a contribution or to establish a new endowment, contact the CU Office of University Advancement at 581-2999 or email foundation@cameron.edu.
