Cameron University Concert Band and Cameron Community Band bring music to University Theatre

Music will fill the University Theatre on Sunday, October 26, when the Cameron University Concert Band and the Cameron Community Band take the stage at 3 p.m.

Tickets purchased at the door are $10 for adult and $8 for senior citizens, members of the military and non-CU students. Cameron University students, faculty and staff receive one free admission with their CU I.D. Tickets can be reserved by calling the box office at 580-581-2346. Tickets can also be purchased in advance online at https://www.cameron.edu/art-music-and-theatre/events/buy-tickets. (Taxes and processing fees apply.)

The Cameron Community Band will open the concert with Steven Reineke’s “Celebration Fanfare,” a standard for wind ensemble. The band will then perform “At Morning’s First Light” by David Gillingham, followed by Karl L. King’s classic “Alamo March” by Karl L. King. Next is a wind band rendition of “A Basque Lullaby,” a calming choral piece by Dan Forrest. The ensemble will close its program with “Incantations” by Robert W. Smith.

The Cameron University Concert Band will take the stage with Richard Saucedo’s “Fanfare for the Third Planet” followed by Todd Stalter’s “Rampage,” a violent and cacophonous amalgamation of rhythms and sounds. The group will move forward with “Appalachian Morning” by Robert Sheldon and Henry Fillmore’s classic march, “His Honor.” That will be followed by Vincent Persichetti’s “Divertimento for Band.”

“This six-movement work has long been a staple in wind band repertoire, featuring light and playful melodies and providing emotion and depth through its syncopated woodwind figures, heavy brass, and prominent percussion,” says Cy Miessler, director of the two ensembles.

The concert band will conclude with “The Devil’s Workshop” by Kimberly Archer.

The two ensembles will then join forces for Benjamin Barker’s “A Crown of Thorns, A Soul of Fire,” which Miessler describes as “a powerful display of the pain of balancing the heart and mind through music.” The night will conclude with the jazz-rocky funk fest “Angry Beavers” by Brian Beck.
