“Glengarry Glen Ross,” the Pulitzer Prize-winning 1983 stage play by American playwright David Mamet, will be presented by Cameron University students Nov. 19-22.
The production will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 19-21, in the University Theatre’s studio theatre. It concludes with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22.
The story follows a group of desperate, cutthroat real estate salesmen in a high-pressure office. They spend their days cold-calling and manipulating clients to sell worthless or overpriced Florida land developments – named Glengarry Highlands and Glen Ross Farms. Mamet based his play on his own experience working in a real estate office in the 1970s, when he was a struggling playwright.
The cast of the production has been announced. In a twist of the original play – in which all the major roles were played by men – Cameron’s production will feature female students in those roles.
Rose Venus of Greeley, Colo., has been cast as “Shelly Levene.” Ryan Martin of Indiahoma will play “John Williamson.” Skylar Edwards, Las Vegas, Nev., has the role of “Dave Moss.” Jaiden Standridge and Victoria Spruill, both of Duncan, will play “George Aaronow” and “Richard Roma,” respectively. Rounding out the cast Sadie Jensen of Manitou as “James Lingk,” Aster Ruff of Lawton as “Baylen” and Kitt Mills of Comanche as “Blake.”
“Glengarry Glen Ross” will be directed by Cameron instructor Jean Tartière. Associate professor Ben Williams is technical director and scenic and lighting designer. Spruill is costume designer, Venus is assistant costume designer and Brendon Reeves of Lawton is sound designer.
The crew is comprised of Abbey Kirby of Houston, Texas, as assistant scenic designer, Joshua Olenick of Raleigh, N.C., as assistant stage manager, Theo Cognet of Horizon City, Texas as light board operator, Ariah Deuel of Lawton as sound board operator, and Gabby Aguilar-Freeman of Oberkirch, Germany, handling props. The run crew is Troy Pressley and Adam Young, both of Lawton, with Alaya Price of Lawton on the wardrobe crew. Mvnte July of Tulsa is the house manager, and Skylar Edwards is handling publicity.
