Cameron University to connect veterans, dependents to U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs during virtual Veterans Resource Fair

In conjunction with the national observance of Veterans Day, Cameron University’s Office of Veterans Affairs is excited to partner with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to host a virtual Resource Fair. The two-day event will connect veterans and their family members with representatives from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for individualized virtual chats offering information about various services. The CU Veterans Resource Fair will be held, November 4 and 5, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Shepler Center Ballroom. Facial coverings are required.

“We are excited to host the first virtual Veterans Resource fair in Oklahoma,” says Vicki Henson, CU Assistant Director of Financial Assistance Services and Coordinator of Veterans Affairs. “Veterans, service members and dependents who have questions about educational benefits will be able to conduct one-on-one chats with representatives from the Muskogee Regional Office.”

Those representatives will also be able to process claims and work on problems resolution.

“This is a rare opportunity to talk directly, through a virtual chat, with veterans claims examiners,” says Henson. “We encourage veterans, active duty military service members, and eligible family members who attend or plan to attend Cameron University to drop by for assistance.”

Rachel Barber, Legal Administrative Specialist/Public Contact Outreach Specialist, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Veterans Service Center at Fort Sill, will be available to provide information, answer questions and discuss other types of VA benefits, including VA compensation and pension benefits.

Alfred Finch, VetSuccess on Campus (VSOC) counselor at Cameron University, will be available to assist current students using VA educational benefits with specialized career, financial and personalized counseling services and employment search assistance. He also provides information about the Federal Department of Veteran Affairs Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) program, which includes assistance with job training, employment accommodations, resume development, independent personal business initiation, medical referral and job seeking skills coaching.

Samantha Cain, Human Resources Specialist, will be available to share tips on how to apply for a federal position with the federal Department of Veterans Affairs. She also will be able to provide advice for best strategies for job seekers.

The CU Office of Veterans Affairs will provide general information about utilization of VA educational benefits. To learn more, call 580-581-2301 or email VA@cameron.edu.
