Cameron University Phi Kappa Phi chapter welcome new members




Seventeen Cameron University students accepted the invitation to join Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and largest all-discipline honor society, after meeting the organization’s rigorous requirements. Membership is by invitation only to the top 10 percent of seniors and graduate students and the top 7.5 percent of juniors.

Students were inducted during a recent initiation ceremony. In addition to the student honorees, Dr. Douglas Catterrall, professor in the Department of Social Sciences; Dr. Abbas Johari, professor in the Department of Computing and Mathematical Sciences; Dr. Danyelle Lee, associate professor in the Department of Agriculture, Biology and Health Sciences; and Dr. Matthew Van Sant, associate professor in the Department of Agriculture, Biology and Health Sciences, were inducted as faculty members.

Special honors were presented during the initiation ceremony. CU President John McArthur received the Promotion of Excellence Award, and Dr. James Heflin, associate professor in the Department of Communication, English and Foreign Languages, was honored with the Meritorious Service Award. Angela Gibbons, a 2018 magna cum laude Cameron graduate, was recognized as the chapter’s Distinguished Alumna. Gibbons is a certified physician assistant who practices family medicine at Falling Waters Medical Associates in Duncan. Dr. William Carney, professor in the Department of Communication, English and Foreign Languages, was named the chapter’s Distinguished Faculty Member for 2024.
