Strategic Planning Process
It was Dr. Cynthia S. Ross’ vision that Cameron become Oklahoma’s premier regional university.
In 2002, while still in her first year as president, Ross recognized that Cameron University needed a blueprint to guide its growth in the 21st century, a realization leading to the establishment of a strategic planning process that continues to be used by the university a quarter-century later.
In early 2003, Ross appointed a planning committee representing all areas of the Aggie family – undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and administrators. More than 80 people participated in a university-wide retreat that spring to discuss CU’s future. The retreat led to the creation of Plan 2008: Preparing for Cameron University’s Second Century, a document intended to establish and communicate the university’s core values to internal and external publics, and to evaluate the university’s strengths, as well as the challenges it faced. The plan provided a blueprint to guide Cameron to its 100th anniversary in 2008, strengthening resources and improving organizational effectiveness.
Plan 2008 was followed by Plan 2013: Choices for the Second Century, Plan 2018: Values Driven, Action Oriented and Plan 2023: Ambitious Goals for Growth, Innovation and Engagement, each one building upon the foundation and successes of the previous plan.
In each strategic plan, the goal has been to provide the best possible education experience to CU’s students and the communities it serves.
Cameron University continues to utilize a long-term, strategic planning process to guide its growth, development and the allocation of resources. Over the years, the process has expanded to include input from CU staff, alumni, tribal partners and community members from Lawton and Duncan.
Under President Shane Hunt, Cameron’s newest strategic plan, Plan 2031: Go for the Gold, will be presented this fall to its governing body, the Board of Regents for the University of Oklahoma, Cameron University and Rogers State University.
This will be the guiding document to further the mission of Cameron University. Cameron remains fully committed to the educational, cultural and economic advancement of the communities it serves.
We invite you to return to this page later this year to view Plan 2031: Go for the Gold once it is finalized.
