Scene Shop Student Assistant - Art, Music, & Theatre Arts

Job Description

Job duties include but are not limited to: construction of scenery of theatre productions, upkeep of shop and theatre spaces, possible technical crew assistance. The duties of this job are frequently laborious and messy. All responsibilities will be assigned by the technical director, assistant technical director, costume shop director and/or Chair of the Department including adherence to all rules and regulations of Cameron University and scene shop safety protocol.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must be able to safely operate scene shop power tools, read and work with SAE measuring tapes and rulers, be able to add, subtract and divide fractions in 1/2, 1/8” and 1/16” increments, be able to lift 75 pounds and possess a positive attitude. Punctuality and preparedness are expected. If selected for position student must be able to provide their own personal safety equipment including: sturdy work shoes, personal eye protection, personal ear protection, a 25 foot tape measure, pencils. Clean black clothing would be needed during event support. Candidates should possess a valid driver’s license.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

Preferred candidates will be comfortable working in heights, possess good communication skills, the ability to interact with the public, professional work attitudes. Individuals with experience in construction or theatre scene work strongly preferred. Hours are generally in the afternoons but student worker may be asked to work some nights or weekends.
