Keeping the campus community informed.

State of emergency declaration(updated)

  • April 7, 2020

On March 16, the City of Lawton declared a state of emergency because of COVID-19 concerns. This declaration has been modified several times since its issuance.

In an effort to minimize public confusion over restrictions and in a spirit of community cooperation, Cameron University has closed its Lawton and Duncan campuses to students, employees and visitors effective Thursday, March 26, with the exception of students who are dependent upon campus housing, and personnel needed to support those students and maintain a safe campus. This closure includes such facilities as the CU Library, campus computer labs, the University Theatre and Aggie Rec Center, and all athletic facilities such as Aggie Gym, the Terry Bell Golf Center and all exterior venues. Most campus buildings are locked.

Cameron University continues to focus its efforts on enabling students to complete the Spring 2020 semester. To that end, student instruction continues, although in a virtual format. Small-group academic sessions have been discontinued.

Cameron University is voluntarily supporting the City of Lawton’s access restrictions at all of its instructional sites. Currently, university buildings and facilities are closed to the public through April 30, 2020. This date is subject to review and change.
