Pre-enrollment Tests

Initial Course Placement for English, Reading, & Mathematics

Cameron University uses ACT/SAT scores and an unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 7 semester or final high school transcript to determine placement in English, reading, mathematics, and science courses for first-time entering students who are under the age of 21.

Students with an ACT score of less than 19 in English, mathematics, or reading and an unweighted cumulative GPA less than 3.0 on a 7 semester or final high school transcript are required to take a developmental course in the subject area or be approved for placement in a collegiate level course based on performance on course placement tests (CPT).

Adult students (active duty military or students age 21 and older) may provide ACT or SAT test scores and/or a 7 semester or final high school transcript with an unweighted cumulative GPA to determine initial course placement. Without these documents, or with ACT sub-scores below 19 or an unweighted 7 semester or final high school cumulative GPA below 3.0, Accuplacer computerized course placement test(s) are required to determine initial course placement.

Course Placement Tests (CPT)

Cameron University uses Accuplacer: Next Generation for all Course Placement Tests. These tests are used to determine a person’s readiness for college-level classes in math, reading, and English. The Next Generation tests are scored in the 200-300 point range. Each test is between 20-25 questions and they are not timed. Students can download a free practice app at https://practice.accuplacer.org/login. Register for Course Placement Testing at www.registerblast.com/Cameron

Days and Times: We offer Course Placement Testing on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with in-person sessions at 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Remote testing is available for students who are ill or who are not local to the Duncan/Lawton area.

Cost: This test is free to students up through their first semester at Cameron.  After a student has attempted or completed a semester at Cameron, there will be a cost of $15.00 per attempt.

Retest Options: Students may retake any sections of the Course Placement Test as many times as they would like.  However, there is a waiting period between each attempt to allow the student time to use the practice and app and prepare.  There is a two week waiting period between the first and second attempt, and a 30 day waiting period for each subsequent attempt.
