What's so special about investiture?
Welcome back to campus for another great year at Cameron University. For the next three weeks, you will be seeing and hearing a lot around campus about "investiture."
So, what is Investiture?
Investiture is an academic tradition - a ceremony in which a new university president is officially installed in his position. At Cameron, it's Dr. Shane Hunt. He's been president for less than two months, so CU is planning a celebration to mark the start of his presidency.
But investiture is also a celebration of Cameron - our mission, our faculty, our staff, but most of all, our students because, after all, you are the most important thing on campus.
Why should I get involved in Investiture events?
There's no telling when Cameron will see another Investiture and this is our first one in 12 years, meaning this is a unique opportunity to show your Aggie Pride by attending a once in a lifetime college experience. Whether you attend every event or just one, we want to CU celebrating with us! Investitures don't happen very often, and we want you to be part of this one. Let's show President Hunt how much we love him!
How do I get involved and attend?
To celebrate President Hunt's installation at Cameron, we've planned a LOT of special activities in the days ahead, from receptions to hot dog eating contests, to scavenger hunts, to picnics. And food. There will be lots of food.
You can find the list of events at the bottom of this page. While most of these events are open to campus and the community, there’s one we’ve catered just for you! On September 3rd, President Hunt will be in the Bentley Gardens serving free hot dogs, chips, and drinks for students. He’ll be there from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., so stop by before or after class to grab a snack and say hello!
For those of you who are members of teams or student organizations, take the time to attend together. Not only will it be a more enjoyable experience amongst friends, but it shows that you are active, unified, and involved on campus! Feel free to wear your uniform, letters, or associated group colors, too!
What if I want to be a part of the Investiture ceremony, but can’t make it?
If you’re an online student, live in Duncan, or are just too busy to attend, there’s still a way to watch! The Investiture ceremony will be recorded and uploaded to the Cameron University website and social media pages. Whether you’re viewing on your own, or hosting a watch party for the whole neighborhood, we’d love to see it! Take a selfie while watching the ceremony and post it to your social media with the hashtag #CUInvestiture.
This page will be updated frequently, so check back often.
