TUTOR – Office of Teaching and Learning

The Cameron Tutoring Center is seeking new tutors in all subject areas- especially Math, English/Writing, Sciences, Business, and History. Hours are flexible and depend on your class schedule. Tutor may work up to 20 hours per week. Duties include working closely with students to provide both face-to-face and virtual assistance with various aspects of the writing process, keeping accurate records of tutoring sessions, maintaining files, answering the telephone, responding to emails, and scheduling. The tutor facilitates learning as a guide and coach to assist students in becoming successful, independent learners.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants are expected to have (1) Achieved at least a sophomore classification. (2) Have at least a 3.0 GPA, (3) Basic computer skills. (4) Excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills. (5) For Writing Tutors - successful completion of ENGL 1213 (English Composition II). Basic understanding of the essay writing process and of documenting sources. For Math Tutors - competition of MATH 1513, MATH 1413, or STAT 1513 and a grade of B or higher in the course. (6) For Tutors in All Other Subjects – successful completion in General Level classes in that subject area.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Ideal writing tutor candidates will have (1) working knowledge of MLA, APA, and CMS styles, (2) at least a 3.5 GPA (3) knowledge of common office software such as Microsoft Word, (4) previous experience as a tutor or education majors, (5) have taken a calculus-based math course for math tutors
