library collections maintenance student assistant
The Cameron University Library is seeking a Library Collections Maintenance Student Assistant to work 20 hours per week. The assistant’s schedule will be set during Monday-Friday, 8:00AM-5:00PM, depending on departmental needs. This student will work directly with the Collection Development Team and Cameron Archives to help organize, evaluate, and maintain library collections. This is a great experience for someone who may be interested in a career within libraries, archives or museums.
Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
● Retrieving or reshelving materials
● Inventorying
● Weeding
● Cleaning and organizing shelves
● Processing, including labeling and wrapping books
● Updating records
● Assist with special projects when necessary
● Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualification
● Strong attention to detail
● Excellent organizational abilities
● Ability to work independently and complete tasks in a timely manner
● Strong comprehension and execution of written and verbal instructions
● Comfortable learning and using digital tools and applications
Preferred Qualifications
● A passion for libraries, archives and museum work
● Familiarity with the Library of Congress Classification System
● Familiarity with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift objects under 15 pounds including using the upper body to raise objects from a lower position to a higher position; ability to reach including extending the arm and hand; ability to stand for short or extended periods of time; ability to engage in repetitive motions including finger dexterity; ability to speak, hear and see. Ability to crouch, climb and walk stairs.
