Departmental Advising

All new students to Cameron University start with an advisor in the Academic Advising Center.  The Professional Advisors in the Academic Advising Center work with students to help them learn how to build schedules, navigate degree plans, and choose a major that aligns with the students' stated career goals.

Students will typically meet with a Professional Advisor in the Academic Advising Center for their first few semesters.  Once the student has 1) cleared all remediation (completed any needed developmental coursework), 2) had their transfer work evaluated, and 3) declared a major, students are typically reassigned to a Departmental Advisor in the academic department associated with their major.

Departmental Advisors are instructors that teach in the students Academic Department.  For example, if a student is an Accounting major, they will be assigned a Departmental Advisor who is an instructor in the Business Department.  Departmental Advisors can offer insight into fine tuning students' professional/career goals and how to best align major courses to fit those goals.  After meeting with a Departmental Advisor, students will be given a PIN number that they can use to enroll themselves for the upcoming semester.  Students should meet with their departmental advisor each semester to review course selection and get a new PIN.
