Two Cameron University student organizations, the Diversity Diplomats and the Residence Hall Association, will present a Poetry and Chill Open Mic Night on Thursday, October 24, at 7 p.m. in the McCasland Ballroom, located in the McMahon Centennial Complex. Community members are invited to attend to showcase poetry, singing or other artistic, literary talent. There is no charge to attend.
The event will provide an opportunity for individuals to express their thoughts, feelings and gifts of writing. For those who are not interested in taking the stage, it promises to be an evening of enjoyable and sometimes thought-provoking artistic expression.
Gregory McPherson II, founder of Poetry and Chill OKC, will host the event. An Oklahoma native, McPherson relocated to Los Angeles for a few years. While there, he became immersed in that city’s active poetry community. When he returned to his hometown, he wanted to introduce that same vibe to Oklahoma City. Poetry and Chill was created in July 2017.
MexiAsian, a popular food truck from the Lawton Fort Sill community, will be in attendance thanks to sponsorship by the Cameron University Student Government Association. Food will be served as long as supplies last.
