Cameron University will kick off the Fall 2019 semester with a Back to School Block Party on Sunday, August 18 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Bentley Gardens. The fun-filled event will welcome students to campus with a variety of activities before the onset of classes on Monday, August 19.
“The Back to School Block Party promises something for everyone,” says Dr. Leslie Cothren, Director of Campus Life. “It’s a great opportunity for our students to enjoy some fun-time on campus and get back into the Aggie groove before classes start on Monday.”
During the block party, students will enjoy hot dogs, snow cones, and popcorn, as well as outdoor games like volleyball and basketball, a DJ, and more. Student organizations and campus departments will be on hand with interactive activities, and local businesses who participate in Cameron’s Paint the Town Black and Gold program have been invited to participate.
The Back to School Block Party is the first of numerous Welcome Week events. On Monday, August 19, students heading to morning classes can start their day with free breakfast from 7:30 to 10 a.m. On Tuesday, they can “burn off” some energy during a fun wood-etching activity, and on Wednesday, enjoy a stereotypical college lunch with free pizza. That evening, it’s time to play “Minute to Win it” starting at 7 p.m.
On Thursday morning, Aggies can stop by one of three “carnival” stops on campus to play a game and win school supplies as prizes. Thursday evening brings to campus comedian Dave Helem, who believes he can find something funny in any aspect of human life, at 7 p.m. Friday is outdoor movie night on the Ross Hall lawn with a free showing of “Avenger’s Endgame.”
Cameron students are invited to all Welcome Week activities at no charge.
Welcome Week events are hosted by Cameron University’s Office of Campus Life and the Programming Activities Council.
