Cameron University Speech and Debate team returns to action

After a one-year hiatus, the Cameron University Speech and Debate team has returned to action, completing its first competition at the 2019 Derryberry Season Opener hosted by Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo.  Team members Teague Fox, Tuttle, and Ian Snyder, Mabank, Texas, faced competitors from 16 colleges and universities in four events.

“I am proud of our start to the year,” says Katie Stringer, coach of the CU Speech and Debate team. “This tournament served as a great way for our students to get back into competition and get our name back on the circuit. These students worked hard to get here and are only working harder in preparation for the next tournament. We are excited to change, adapt and polish our events before the next competition.”

Fox, a seasoned competitor and the 2017 National Champion in Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate, placed sixth in Communication Analysis. He is a senior majoring in Biology with a concentration in Organismal Biology and a minor in Chemistry.

Snyder, who joined the Aggie Speech and Debate Team as a freshman in 2017, placed fifth in Poetry Interpretation.  He is a junior majoring in Communication with a concentration in Public Relations.

The Aggie Speech and Debate team travels to Fort Worth for the Cowtown Swing tournament hosted by Texas Christian University and West Texas A&M University from October 25 through 27.
