Safety, inclement weather plan, parking for those with disabilities and seating outlined for Cameron University Commencement

Cameron University’s annual Commencement is scheduled for Friday, May 3, at 7:30 p.m. at Cameron Stadium. State Regent Ann Holloway will deliver the Commencement address. Cameron officials encourage graduates, their families and friends, and all visitors to arrive at least 30 minutes early to facilitate a seamless entry into the stadium. Gates open at 6 p.m. Ample parking is available on campus. Chilled water will be available free of charge.

Parking for individuals with disabilities is available at the northwest entrance to Cameron Stadium. Because disabled parking is limited for an event of this size, it is advisable to arrive early. Seating for those with disabilities will be reserved on the north side of the stadium floor. Guests desiring seating in this area should enter through the northwest gate (off 38th Street). Special seating areas accessible through the east gates will also be designated on the upper stadium level on the north side

Oversized bags, backpacks, duffle bags, coolers, drinks, cans and bottles will not be permitted. Safety checks of allowable carry-in baggage or cases, such as handbags, purses, camera bags, or any like container, will be conducted by trained security officers. The officers will check for any unacceptable items, such as cans, bottles, illegal drugs, alcohol, weapons, fireworks, signs on poles, and noisemakers.

Due to Cameron’s proximity to Comanche County Memorial Hospital, the FAA has designated Cameron University as a “no-fly” zone. Therefore, the use of drones is prohibited on the Cameron campus without FAA authorization.

In the event of a spring rain, Commencement will still be held at Cameron Stadium on Friday evening. Ponchos will be available at the stadium gates for graduates, faculty and guests. Guests are encouraged to dress accordingly. Also, to ensure that all guests have an unimpeded view of the stage, umbrellas will not be allowed.

In the event of severe inclement weather on Friday evening, the ceremony will be held at Cameron Stadium at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 4. Graduates should report to the stadium at 9:30 a.m.

If severe weather continues on Saturday morning, three separate ceremonies will be held at Aggie Gym, beginning at 10 a.m., Noon and 2 p.m. If Commencement is held in Aggie Gym, each graduate is limited to four guests due to space limitations.

The 10 a.m. ceremony will be held for candidates from the Departments of Agriculture, Biology and Health Sciences; Art, Music & Theatre Arts; Chemistry, Physics & Engineering; Communication; English & Foreign Languages; Mathematical Sciences; and Military Science. Faculty and candidates should assemble no later than 9:30 a.m. in the Administration Building.

The Noon ceremony will be held for candidates from the Departments of Business, Computing & Technology, and the Office of Extended Learning. Faculty, staff, and candidates should assemble no later than 11:30 a.m. in the Administration Building.

The 2 p.m. ceremony will be held for candidates from the Departments of Education, Psychology, Sports & Exercise Science, and Social Sciences. Faculty and candidates should assemble no later than 1:30 p.m. in the Administration Building.
