The Cameron University Department of Music will present “Soirée VII: Concertos, Arias and Duets,” an all-Mozart program featuring Cameron piano students, on Thursday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the McCutcheon Recital Hall. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for senior/military/non-Cameron students. CU students, faculty and staff are admitted free with CU I.D.
The annual soirée, now in its seventh year, is presented by piano students who are enrolled in Accompanying Class taught by Dr. Hyunsoon Whang, professor and McMahon Endowed Chair in Music. For “Soiree VII,” each piano student will perform a movement of a Mozart piano concerto, accompanied by Whang. The pianists will also accompany voice students in arias and duets from Mozart’s operas.
“As a composer, Mozart’s foremost passion was writing operas; the other genre close to his heart was the piano concerto,” says Whang. “This type of concert gives our students invaluable ensemble experience as well as the opportunity to highlight the talents of Cameron University music students. Not only do they further develop ensemble skills necessary for musicianship but also they bond though working together.”
Students scheduled to perform are pianists Ike Chan, Hong Kong; Diana Kirby, Amy Morales and Mena Stone, Lawton; and vocalists Gabe Caron, Altus; Haleigh Adams, Lorenzo Butler and Jessica Fernandez, Lawton.
