Cameron University will host “Art Inspired,” the 2014 Fall Conference of the Oklahoma Arts Educators Association on Friday, October 10, and Saturday, October 11. The conference is open to art educators. The cost to register at the door is $60 for OAEA members, $75 for non-members, and $30 for students/retirees. Registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, October 10 in the InAsMuch Gallery of the McMahon Centennial Complex.
On Friday, October 10, at 6 p.m. in the McCasland Ballroom of the McMahon Centennial Complex, the Oklahoma Arts Council will present “Arts Education Resources for Schools,” featuring information about grants, field trips, lesson plans and other arts education resources. Following that presentation, a Gallery Reception and Member Art Show will take place in the foyer of the University Theatre at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, October 11, registration will begin at 8 a.m. in the McMahon Centennial Complex. The keynote presentation will be delivered by Glen Henry, Director, Fine Arts, Oklahoma State Department on Education, at 10:20 a.m. in the McCasland Ballroom. Henry will present the new Oklahoma Visual Art Standards. A panel discussion will follow.
The conference will feature 31 artist workshops on topics including expressive portraits, digital art, color strategies, paper stencil screen printing, animal soft sculptures gelli arts monoprinting, 3D art, and more. Several workshops will focus on providing educators with teaching resources and techniques such as adaptive art education for students who are visually impaired, dealing with disciplinary problems in the classroom, diagnosing math anxiety, service-learning and art education, enabling critical thinking with art, incorporating the S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, art and math) into the art room, and more.
