Cameron University observes Black History Month with presentation by children’s author Gwendolyn Hooks

In observance of Black History Month, the Cameron University Library and Office of Student Development will present guest speaker Gwendolyn Hooks on Thursday, February 20 at 2 p.m. in the CETES Conference Center. Hooks, a noted children’s author, will address the value of multicultural literature for children. The presentation is open to the public at no charge.

photo of Gwendolyn HooksHooks, who has published 17 books for children, writes both fiction and nonfiction to encourage children to explore their world. Her work is inspired by friendship, family and pets.

Her recent books are the eight-book series, “The Pet Club Stories,” “Bobby’s Big Bear Hunt” and “The Best Shoes.” Her upcoming book, to be published in 2015 by Lee & Low Books, is a picture book biography, “Vivien Thomas – The Man Who Saved the Blue Babies.”

Hooks is also a contributor to The Brown Bookshelf, a blog that promotes African/American authors and literature.
