Partnership between Cameron University and The Simmons Center to benefit CU-Duncan students

Students attending Cameron University-Duncan can now utilize the recreation center at Duncan’s Simmons Center (SC) at no charge, thanks to a partnership agreement between Cameron University and The Simmons Center. Through the agreement, CU-Duncan students will have access to a physical fitness center comparable to Cameron’s Aggie Rec Center in Lawton.

“Cameron University has enjoyed a great partnership with The Simmons Center for over a decade through the annual CU@SC series of concerts, plays, exhibits and lectures,” says Cameron President John McArthur. “Additionally, Cameron’s Department of Health and Physical Education uses the recreation center for various physical education-related classes. By expanding our partnership with The Simmons Center, we can now offer approximately 600 Cameron students access to a first-class health and fitness facility in Duncan.”

"The Simmons Center is pleased to expand its relationship with Cameron University," says Junior Harris, Executive Director, The Simmons Center. "We look forward to having college students actively engaged in activities that promote a healthy lifestyle.  This will be a great benefit for the students and is another example of how the Simmons Center serves this community."

Initial signup for CU-Duncan students will take place on August 14-15 on the CU-Duncan campus. Eligible students must complete a membership application in order to receive a Simmons Center membership card, which may be renewed each semester contingent upon a student’s continued enrollment at CU-Duncan.

Access to The Simmons Center recreation center allows CU-Duncan students the opportunity to engage in physical activities that promote health and wellness. The facility features a six-lane, 25-meter

swimming pool with a one-meter diving board; an instructional swimming pool; two full-sized gymnasiums designed for basketball, volleyball and tennis; an elevated running/walking track; racquetball courts also equipped for walleyball and handball; a weight/exercise room with state-of-the-art Cybex, Universal, cardiovascular and free weight equipment; an aerobics/dance room; a game room with table tennis and electronic games; men’s and women’s locker rooms with sauna, showers and lockers; and more.  The roster of fitness classes includes Bosu, Zumba, Steptastic, body sculpting, pilates/yoga, t’ai-chi, water aerobics, and others.
