Cameron University will host a variety of activities for Senior Week, a new initiative aimed at assisting 2013 Cameron graduates as they transition from college life to the workforce. Senior Week takes place from April 1-5.
“Earning a college degree is a great accomplishment that we celebrate each year with our graduating class,” says Jennifer Holland, Vice President for Student Services. “We want to send them into the world with more than a degree. The activities planned for Senior Week is one way of ensuring the members of our senior class are equipped with the tools and resources to help them succeed on a professional level.”
On Monday, April 1, students have the opportunity to present a resume during “Resume Review.” Career Services Coordinator Angie Best and other hiring professionals will offer tips and suggestions to help students enhance their resume as they begin job-hunting. The session is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the McMahon Centennial Complex (MCC) and will also be offered on Friday, April 5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Also on Monday, Holland and Jennifer McGrail, Director of Alumni Affairs, will present “The Real World and Your Money,” a session packed with information about loans, mortgages, investments, savings, credit and more. Community speakers will talk about understanding salary and benefits, something everyone new to the workforce should know. The presentation takes place at 5:30 p.m. in the Buddy Green Room of the MCC. Dinner will be provided.
On Tuesday, Cameron students will walk down the runway during the “Dress For Success Fashion Show” at 5:30 p.m. in the McCasland Ballroom. The fashion show will give graduating students the opportunity to learn about dressing appropriately for the workplace and for job interviews. Fashions will be provided by JC Penney, Sears, Dillards, Old Navy, Edward’s Men’s Wear, New York Fashion and Deb’s Boutique, so there should be something to fit every individual’s style.
Students who need assistance putting a resume together can attend “Working Out Your Resume” at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Best will offer guidance for creating a quality resume that will get the attention of potential employers. The session takes place in the Buddy Green Room of the MCC.
On Wednesday, April 3, an “Interview Roundup” will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 225 of the Business Building. This session gives students the chance to practice their presentation skills via one-on-one interviews, panel interviews, telephone interviews and Skype interviews - a great opportunity to get valuable feedback from hiring professionals.
On Thursday, April 4, seniors are invited to the “Networking Lunch and Learn” from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Buddy Green Room. Best and McGrail will cover the power of networkings and will share tips for working a room. Lunch will be provided.
Later that night, the university will host a “Senior Send-Off Reception,” celebrating the accomplishments of the Class of 2013, in the McCasland Ballroom from 6 to 8 p.m. Seniors planning to attend are asked to RSVP for this event by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 581-2217.
Throughout the week, representatives from the Office of Alumni Relations will be available in the MCC from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to facilitate enrollment in the Cameron University Alumni Association and to introduce seniors to the Class of 2013 Gift Campaign.
